Phim đồng tính nữ gây sốt thống trị đề cử Quả cầu vàng
Bộ phim từng gây sốt ở Liên hoan phim Cannes, đại náo giải Tinh thần độc lập tiếp tục thống trị hàng loạt đề cử tại giải Quả cầu vàng 2016.
Carol, bộ phim mang đề tài đồng tính nữ đã dẫn đầu các hạng mục điện ảnh ở đề cử giải thưởng Quả cầu vàng 2016 với 5 đề cử cho Phim truyện - Thể loại tâm lý, Đạo diễn (Todd Haynes), Nữ diễn viên chính - Thể loại tâm lý (bộ đôi Cate Blanchett - Rooney Mara) và Nhạc nền trong phim xuất sắc (Carter Burwell).

Khi công chiếu ở Cannes, Carol đã gây chấn động và nhận được cơn mưa lời khen. Giới phê bình đánh giá bộ phim lãng mạn này là phiên bản nữ của Brokeback Moutain.
Sau khi gây sốt tại LHP Cannes, Carol lại “đại náo” giải Independent Spirit - Tinh thần độc lập và hiện tại, đây cũng là ứng viên sáng giá cho các hạng mục ở Quả cầu vàng 2016. Đáng chú ý, cả 2 diễn viên Cate Blanchett và Rooney Mara cùng được đề cử giải Nữ chính xuất sắc nhất.

Carol là tác phẩm chuyển thể từ cuốn tiểu thuyết The Price of Salt của nhà văn Patricia Highsmith. Chuyện phim xoay quanh mối tình trái ngang giữa hai người phụ nữ có xuất thân khác biệt tại thành phố New York trong thập niên 1950. Minh tinh 46 tuổi Cate Blanchett vào vai một phụ nữ đã có gia đình (Carol) nhưng lại gặp phải tiếng sét ái tình với một cô gái ngây thơ 19 tuổi.
Xếp sau Carol là bộ phim The Revenant của nam tài tử Leonardo DiCaprio, phim tiểu sử Steve Jobs và bộ phim The Big Short với cùng bốn đề cử.
